Good post, I believe they have done this, so that the people CAN'T work on their vehicles. You see so many commercials regarding "Car Shields" in ADDITION to your INSURANCE. It is all about MONEY.
Youre right, especially when the carburetors werent adjusted right, I do feel simple fuel injection(like the 90s cars employed) is the way to go, direct injection has negligible gains and brings all kinds of failure points into play.
Lead was originally to protect and lubricate weak metal valvetrain parts but resulted in so much air pollution and toxic streets that kids played on.
Once metal improved thank goodness we eliminated it from the fuel and eventually outlawed the additives that were even worse because people would add too much.

You are absolutely right Susan! Thank you🙂
Nice post. I would like to add the demise of manual transmission to your list. That's a joy to have that all too many will never know.
Thanks! I totally agree, I still have a 98 TA six speed and its a blast!!
Cars of that time had a huge problem, it was the release of tons unburnt fuel …that was real pollution….
When we were to add liquid lead, then it became very problematic…
The Guy who invented was sick to die but still afirming its the thing to use…
